67-Year-Old Man Makes 2-Meter Gundam Hyaku Shiki For His Grandkids

If you happen to pass through Kakogawa, Hyōgo Prefecture the next time you're in Japan, you may find yourself staring at a 2-meter tall Gundam Hyaku Shiki, decorated in glossy paint and towering over the average human.
The over-sized model is the project of Kenichi Okada, a 67-year-old former Japanese National Railways technician who originally purchased a model Gunpla kit to build with his two grandkids, but then thought, why stop there? So he scaled up the model by 15-times, and created a giant kit comprised of 60 parts. Completed, the model stands at approximately 2 meters high (6.5 ft), and weighs 40 kg (88 lbs).
The project was put on hold earlier in the year when Okada suffered a stroke, but he recovered successfully, and was able to complete the Hyaku Shiki. Unwilling to let past health issues get in the way of his new crafting passion, he's already set his next goal, the Unicorn Gundam.
