Love Live Comes to Life with Bandai's 3D Mini-Theater Toy

posted on by Bamboo Dong

Bandai's Hako Vision mini theaters, which have featured Hatsune Miku, Gundam, Aikatsu, and famous buildings in the past, are now open to the catchy tunes of Love Live!.

There are nine versions in all, each featuring a different character and a voice clip from the actress, a short version of "Bokura wa Ima no Naka de," and one of the songs from the three subgroups. The mini theaters featuring Honoka, Kotori, or Hanayo will have "Pure girls project" by Printemps; those featuring Nico, Maki, or Eli will have Bibi's "Cutie Panther"; and those with Umi, Rin, or Nozomi will have lily white's "Binetsu Kara Mystery."

Each one sells for 500 yen (about US$4.20), though fans wishing the collect all nine can buy a box for 4,860 yen (about US$40.88).

Of course, if you're keen on supporting your favorite idol, or you just want to watch more songs in your Hako Vision, you can also pick up Love Live! Hako Vision tickets, complete with their own ticket cases. Each one has a QR code for an extra voice clip, plus a remix of one of the above subgroup songs: the Super-Mordo Mix of "Pure girls project," the Metal-Panther Mix of "Cutie Panther," or the TeKe-TeKe ELEKI Mix of "Binetsu Kara Mystery."

The Hako Vision mini theaters are actually candy toy kits that come with a piece of candy, and are usually sold in the candy aisle of Japanese markets. The contraption itself is remarkably simple, and largely consists of a printed background with a clear plate. Users download a video by scanning the QR code on the side of the box, and project the video by laying their phone screens on top of the box. Here's a video showing how the theaters work:

The Love Live! Hako Vision mini theaters and Hako Vision tickets will be available at mass retailers around Japan starting April 27, 2015.
