Celebrate Pokémon Day on February 27

Next Monday is the 21st anniversary of the day the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue Game Boy games went on sale in Japan. The Pokémon Company is offering a host of Pokémon Day celebrations to mark the occasion.

A special version of Pikachu will appear in Niantic's Pokémon Go smartphone game beginning on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET. Every Pikachu that players encounter until March 6 at 5:00 p.m. ET will wear a party hat that will stay on the electric mouse's head even after the event period. Pikachu with Santa hats appeared in the game beginning in December for an in-game holiday event. Most of the Generation 2 monsters launched in the game on February 16.

The new Gallery Figures collection of character figures will make its worldwide debut in the Pokémon Center on Monday. The first set of figures will include Eevee, Mew, Magikarp, and Pikachu performing their signature attacks.

Beginning on Monday, Pokémon TV will stream the full versions of Pokémon: The First Movie, Pokémon 4Ever, and Pokémon Zoroark: Master of Illusions for a limited time. Pokémon TV is available on the official Pokémon website and on mobile apps. The Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel film will also launch in the iTunes Store, Google Play, and Amazon Video on Monday.

Players of the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Nintendo 3DS games can visit participating GameStop stores until March 5 to receive a Bottle Cap. The item boosts the strength of one Pokémon's stats through Hyper Training. In addition, the Pokémon Shuffle Nintendo 3DS game will hold in-game Pokémon Day promotions. The Pikachu Yellow Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL debuted in North America on Friday.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Online is offering extra Trainer Tokens on the Bonus Wheel for the week leading up to Pokémon Day. Twitch will also host an all-day celebration that will feature recent videos of matches from the Pokémon TCG, video games, and Pokkén Tournament.

The #PokemonDay social hub is asking fans to share their favorite Pokémon photos with the hashtag "#PokemonDay" for a chance to appear in a gallery on the official website.
