Tatsunoko Confirms That Gatchaman's Not the Name of the Team
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
If you aren't immediately familiar with Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, here's the lowdown. A group of (mostly) orphans are taken in by Dr. Nambu, trained in martial arts, outfitted with bird-themed costumes, and fight the mysterious organization Galactor with some high-tech gadgets. It originally premiered in 1972, but main character Ken the Eagle is back for this season's Infini-T Force.
This recent revival of sorts is also conjuring up age old questions about Tatsunoko's original superhero series. For instance, are all five of the kids "Gatchaman," thus collectively, are they "Gatchamen"? Tatsunoko gave the final answer to a 40-year-old query via Twitter on Sunday and they even included an easy to understand graphic.

1972年の作品「科学忍者隊ガッチャマン」。「ガッチャマン」は実は科学忍者隊の名称ではなく、G-1号大鷲の健のことを指します。他の4人は「科学忍者隊メンバー」ということになりますね。ご存じでした? #タツノコ55カウントダウン pic.twitter.com/JfnTj0otd6
It's 19 more days until the 55th anniversary of our founding!
Made in 1972, this is Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. "Gatchaman" is not actually the name of the Science Ninja Team, but meant to designate member G-1, Ken the Eagle. The other four are called "Science Ninja Team Members." Did you know this?
Viz Media announced at Anime Weekend Atlanta that it has licensed the Infini-T Force television anime and film. The first two episodes will premiere streaming on Viz's website on October 4.
