Golden Kamuy, Aoashi Show Support for Japan's Soccer Teams

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Japan's soccer league can count popular manga characters among its many fans. Both Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy and and Yūgo Kobayashi's Aoashi are endorsing professional soccer. Golden Kamuy protagonists Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto and Asirpa are showing their support for the Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo soccer (football) club. Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo are facing Sagan Tosu on their home turf at the Sapporo dome on December 2.

Consadole supporters can pick up a sports towel like the one Asirpa is holding at the match. Staff are also planning Twitter campaigns to award special spectator tickets.

Meanwhile, the titular main character of Ao Ashi is appearing in the main visual for the Prince Takamado Trophy All Japan Youth (U-18) Football League at Saitama Stadium on December 17. The character's uniform is modeled after the one worn by the Premier League's overseas expedition team for the NIKE NEXT HERO Project.

The visual will appear on posters, flyers, and match-day programs. Approximately 2,500 shops will carry the poster after November 25. Collaboration events are also planned.

Golden Kamuy currently has a television anime adaptation in the works by the relatively newly formed Geno Studio. Kobayashi's soccer manga Aoashi launched in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine in 2015. It was nominated for a Manga Taishō award this year and several volumes have topped Oricon manga sales lists.
