Glass Mask's In-Story Play 'Tōriame' Gets Real-Life Adaptation

"Tōriame" (A Passing Rain) will be the next in-story stage play from Suzue Miuchi's Glass Mask (Glass no Kamen) manga to receive a real-world stage play adaptation. The play will run for six performances at Namba Jiyū Gekijō Akaru Studio from April 27-30.
The play stars Glass Mask character Maya and centers on the ordinary high school girl Hiromi Satō. She leads a modest but happy life with her parents, older brother, and younger sister. One day, Hiromi experiences an incident that turns her world upside down forever.
Yuka Hyōdō and Suzuki-P are returning to direct the play, and Megumi Sugiyama is writing the script. Sae Sakimoto and Yukine Iwamura are double-cast as Hiromi. The pair won a Glass Mask acting competition to earn the role.
Previous plays within the Glass Mask story to receive stage play adaptations in the real world include "Onna Kaizoku Bianca" (Pirate Woman Bianca) in 2015 and "Wasurerareta Kōya ~Ōkami Shōjo Jane~" (The Forgotten Wasteland ~Jane the Wolf Girl~) in 2017. The original manga has also inspired various stage adaptations since the first stage musical debuted in 1979. The most recent play ran in Tokyo and Osaka in 2016.
Miuchi launched the manga in 1975, and it inspired a 1984 television anime series and a 2005-2006 anime remake, as well two live-action television series. There was also a three-part video series that started in 1998. Miuchi acknowledged in 2009 that she would end the manga "soon." The 50th compiled volume of the manga was delayed indefinitely in 2013, and the 49th volume was released in 2012.
The Flash anime studio DLE produced the first Glass Mask film, Glass no Kamen Desu ga the Movie Onna Spy no Koi! Murasaki no Bara wa Kiken na Kaori!? (It's Glass Mask But… the Movie: Female Spy's Love! The Purple Rose Has a Dangerous Scent!?), as well as the parody television anime Glass no Kamen Desu ga (It's Glass Mask But) and The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D. The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D also inspired a theatrical anime on July 22.
