Japanese Pub Chain Offers Cells at Work Manga Spinoff Compilation

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Chimney Group's izakaya (Japanese pub) chain Hana no Mai is teaming up with Akane Shimizu's Cells at Work! (Hataraku Saibō) manga for a unique collaboration. The chain began offering a compilation of the manga's spinoff manga on Thursday.

The 160-page compilation is titled "Hataraku Saibō Tsumami Yomi Tokubetsu-hen" (Cells at Work! Side Dish Reading Special Edition), and four Hana no Mai locations in Tokyo are distributing the volume. The book includes excerpts from the first compiled book volume of Shigemitsu Harada and Issei Hatsuyoshi's Hataraku Saibō Black, the first volume of Moe Sugimoto's Hatarakanai Saibō (Cells That Don't Work), and the first two volumes of Haruyuki Kichida's Hataraku Saikin (Bacteria at Work) spinoff manga.

Kichida launched the Hataraku Saikin spinoff manga in Nakayoshi in April 2017. Sugimoto launched Hatarakanai Saibō in July 2017, and Harada and Hatsuyoshi launched the Hataraku Saibō Black spinoff on June 7.

The television anime adaptation of Shimizu's original Cells at Work! manga premiered on July 7. Aniplex of America is streaming the series on Crunchyroll. After it concludes, the series will begin re-airing in Japan on Tokyo MX on October 6.

The manga is also inspiring a stage play.
