Artists Dare Each Other to Model Pokémon in Five Minutes Amid Pokémon Sword/Shield Backlash

posted on by Kim Morrissy

After Nintendo revealed that only 'mons in the Galar Pokédex can be transferred to the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games from previous generations, the backlash inspired the hashtag #bringbacknationaldex.

However, that's not the only hashtag the news has inspired. After a Japanese Twitter user stated that they were disappointed with GAME FREAK because "it only takes 5 minutes to create the graphics for a Pokémon," CG artists started a hashtag called #ポケモン5分モデリング (Pokémon 5-Minute Modeling) for them to show off their attempts at creating a Pokémon model within five minutes. The results have been amusing, to say the least.

As the hashtag took off around the world, artists of all stripes have tried their hand at creating Pokémon. Some of them even look pretty cool, perhaps defeating the original point being made by the hashtag, which is that quality 3D work can't be achieved in five minutes.

If this exercise has proven one thing, it's that achieving the exact look and feel of the Pokémon we've grown familiar with can't happen in five minutes. But I honestly wouldn't mind playing a game with some of these creations.
