Sonic the Hedgehog Hangs Out on Cartoon Network's OK K.O.!

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The fastest blue hero in gaming starred in a special episode of Cartoon Network's OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes series alongside his trusted pal Tails on Sunday. The episode was full of throwbacks to the classic game series, OVA, and definitely had me missing the old 2D cartoon show.

Viewers seemed to enjoy the cross-over episode, too. One scene where Tails apologizes to K.O. has spurred a new meme: Tails is canonically Canadian. Most of the series' characters say "sorry" with that familiar Canadian pronunciation but why ruin a good meme?

Series creator Ian Jones-Quartey was touched by the positive comments and released the character sheets for both Sonic and Tails on Twitter. Jones-Quartey wrote that Sonic Team's own Kazuyuki Hoshino gave feedback and contributed to the designs.

Jones-Quartey told Den of Geek that he wanted to honor every version of Sonic in the episode, including Sonic CD. Jones-Quartey cited Sonic CD has one of his own major influences.

“The intro to Sonic CD is one of my largest influences in the way the OK K.O. characters, when they have their hands balled up into fists they just become balls. That's something I stole from Sonic CD,” Jones-Quartey said.

The episode's soundtrack is also available for streaming now.

OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes launched on August 1, 2017. The cartoon's opening segement was storyboarded by Trigger's own Hiroyuki Imaishi.
