Free Zoom Discussion on U.K. Film Festivals on Japan on Tuesday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Roundtable discussion at 12.30 p.m., includes Eiko Meredith of the Kotatsu anime festival

There will be a free Zoom roundtable discussion on Monday March 29 on "Film Festivals on Japan in the UK," involving several festival organisers. The event will start at 12.30 p.m. While the discussion is not specifically about anime festivals, one of the speakers will be Eiko Meredith, the Director of the Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival.

Registrations are available on Eventbrite here.

The event is described as follows:

"As The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2022 comes to an end, for this roundtable discussion, The Japan Foundation have invited film festival directors from the UK whose festivals have a Japan-focus to varying degrees. All of the festivals were founded without solid institutional backup but developed faster to join in an established film festival circle. Reflecting the current ever-changing circumstances in film industries, together they discuss the reasons for their founding, their operation, as well as issues remaining in organising Japanese film festivals in the UK."

As well as Kotatsu's Eiko Meredith, the speakers in the discussion will be Sonali Joshi, the Curator and Founder of the Day for Night festival; Joshua Smith, the Director of the Japanese Avant-garde and Experimental Film Festival; and Yi Wang, the Director of the Queer East Film Festival. The moderator will be Junko Takekawa, the Senior Arts Programme Officer at The Japan Foundation.

The Japan Foundation's Touring Film Programme continues until the end of March.
