Xenoblade Chronicles X Previewed in English Showcase Video

posted on by Karen Ressler
Wii U game with openworld exploration slated for April 29 in Japan

Nintendo began streaming an English showcase video for Xenoblade Chronicles X during a livestream on Friday. The video introduces the upcoming Wii U game's premise and world.

In Xenoblade Chronicles X (Xenoblade X, pronounced Xenoblade Cross, in Japan), the player will join an organization called B.L.A.D.E., where they must explore the world of Mira and search for "Lifeholds," or lost pods that contain cryogenically frozen humans, lost when humanity landed on Mira.

The player will also be able to take on quests to find items and defeat monsters for the citizens of the base town, New Los Angeles. Helping the citizens will deepen the player's bond with them, which in turn can help the player form bonds with other citizens. The game will support online multiplayer for up to four players, but up to 32 players will be able to exchange information.

Tetsuya Takahashi (Xenogears, Xenosaga series, Xenoblade Chronicles) is helming the game's development, while also collaborating with Yuichiro Takeda and Kazuho Hyodo on the game's script. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill, Seraph of the End) is composing the game's music.

The game is slated to ship in Japan on April 29, and later this year in North America and Europe. Nintendo also announced that the game is now available for early download in Japan. The download will be playable at midnight on the launch day. The game is slated for release in 2015 in North America, Europe, and Australia.

Nintendo will offer a physical version bundled with a Wii U. This "Wii U Xenoblade X Set" will retail for 35,000 yen (about US$294) and also include an art book, map, and Nintendo pre-paid card for 1,000 yen with an original design.

Nintendo released the original Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii in Japan in 2010, Europe in 2011, and North America in 2012. Nintendo released Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for the New Nintendo 3DS on April 2 in Europe and April 10 in North America.
