TV Tokyo announcer Sayaka Suguru announced at a stage greeting event for the second Yōkai Watch film in Tokyo on Saturday that a third anime film will open in winter 2016. Suguru added that the details of the film are still a secret.
The second film, titled Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan! (Yo-kai Watch the Movie: Great King Enma and the 5 Stories, Meow!, pictured at right), will open in Japan on December 19. The film will feature five self-contained stories, and will feature the following guest stars: actress Masami Nagasawa, singer/actress Chiemi Hori, singer/actor Tetsuya Takeda, and the comedy duo "Hakata Hanamaru Daikichi."
The first film in the franchise, Yōkai Watch: Tanjō no Himitsu da Nyan! (Yōkai Watch the Movie: It's the Secret of Birth, Meow!), opened in Japan in December 2014. The film sold more than one million advance tickets, which was the highest number of advance tickets sold in the entire 82-year history of the film's distributor TOHO.
TOHO said in November 2014 that it aims to make Yōkai Watch a long-running hit series in the vein of such beloved franchises as Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, Detective Conan, and Pokémon.
