Death Note Actor, Voice Actor Shidou Nakamura Takes Hiatus to Treat Lung Cancer

Film distributor and theater company operator Shochiku announced on Thursday that actor, voice actor, and kabuki actor Shidō Nakamura is taking a hiatus from his stage performances to undergo hospital treatment for early-stage lung cancer.
The actor, 44, wrote in a handwritten statement that doctors said he would "be able to recover" if he "immediately undergoes surgery." He was scheduled to perform in kabuki performances in June and July.
Nakamura voiced the role of Ryuk in the Death Note live-action movie, and he also reprised the role for the Death Note television anime series, and the Death Note Relight - Visions of a God and Death Note Relight 2 - L's Successors anime specials, the Death Note: The Last Name live-action film, and more recently, the Death Note Light up the NEW world live-action film.
Other live-action roles include Iriya in Gatchaman, Yoshiyuki Nakajima in Silver Spoon, Ran in Beck, and Dragon in Ping Pong, among others. He has also voiced roles in anime such as Arashi no Yoru ni (Gabu), Hunter × Hunter -The Last Mission- (Jed), One Piece: The Curse of the Sacred Sword (Saga), and Pokémon: Giratina & The Sky Warrior (Zero).
