Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle Anime Film Gets Prequel Novel
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The official website for the Godzilla anime film trilogy revealed on Thursday that the Godzilla Project Mechagodzilla novel will ship on April 25 to mark the upcoming theatrical release of Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi (Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle), the second film in the trilogy.
The novel will be a sequel to the prequel novel that shipped on October 25 to mark the release of the first anime film. Renji Ōki is returning to write the novel, and Gen Urobuchi, who is in charge of the original story and screenplay of the movie, is again supervising the novel. The new novel will focus on Mechagodzilla and, similar to the first novel, confront questions such as "Why did mankind have to throw away Earth?" and "What did mankind see the day before the destruction of Earth?"
The second film will open on May 18 in Japan, and will feature a "Godzilla Earth vs. Mechagodzilla" battle. Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei), the first film, opened in Japan on November 17. Netflix began streaming the film worldwide on January 17.
