Norwegian company InkyPen AS announced plans to launch a comics subscription service for the Nintendo Switch console this November. The InkyPen service will offer more than 10,000 graphic novels, including manga and French bandes dessinées, for a subscription price of US$7.99 or the local equivalent.
The app will get a simultaneous release in the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Russia, Africa, and Australia. It will initially be in English, with other languages to follow. The app's publishing partners include IDW, Dynamite, Valiant, Humanoides Associés, and Andrews McMeel.
InkyPen will be the first international non-game app to launch for the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop.
Comixology also offers a Comixology UNLIMITED subscription service, which offers more than 15,000 comics and graphic novels for US$5.99 per month. However, only the first volumes of many of its titles are available as part of the subscription service, with additional volumes sold separately.
InkyPen has not delineated which volumes it will carry, but InkyPen CEO Ronan Huggard said the company has "no intention of selling content piecemeal," and emphasized that it will follow an "all-you-can-read model."
