Unreleased Ushiro PSP Game Announced for Switch After 10 Years
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino revealed in an interview in this week's issue of Gzbrain Inc.'s Weekly Famitsu magazine on Thursday that the company is developing the Ushiro game for the Nintendo Switch. Level-5 originally announced the ghost horror role-playing game for PlayStation Portable in 2008. Hino's comments are part of a 40-page feature in the magazine for Level-5's 20th anniversary.
Though unreleased, the game inspired a novel series and two manga series. Riu Gotō's Ushiro: Fukigen na Shinigami novel series debuted with toi8's cover illustrations in 2014, and Kadokawa released three volumes. The novels inspired a manga adaptation by Shigure Aoba, which launched on the WebNewtype website in May 2015. Kadokawa released a compiled book volume in January 2016. Scriptwriter Bingo Tokio and illustrator Mimori launched their Ushiro manga in December 2015, but the series went on hiatus in 2016 due to Mimori's health.
