MangaGamer Releases Seventh Lair on the Switch

February 10th, 2023 - MangaGamer Releases Seventh Lair on the Nintendo Switch!

Today MangaGamer has announced their very first console release on the Nintendo Switch - Seventh Lair, a tongue-in-cheek but emotional look at the online interactions between an indie game developer and fans, developed by NOVECT, the creators of the highly acclaimed The House in Fata Morgana.

The story of Seventh Lair follows the dejected Dark†Knight, a 27-year-old indie game developer living at the bottom of the social hierarchy. With his career hanging on by a thread and the regulars on his forums criticizing, trolling, and clamoring for his next release, he declares that his next game will premiere on April Fool's. On the ill-fated day, both creator and fans are suddenly sucked into a fantasy world based on his game and forced to figure out how to clear his buggy, unfinished, monstrosity. As frustrations rise and tempers flare, the players' raw emotions and experiences begin to leak out as they are denied the protections of their online handles. What truths lie behind the masks of their personas? Can they survive the game and each other? Or will they manage to find their way back to reality together?

MangaGamer's PR Director, John Pickett, had this to say about the new release:

"After years of releasing our Visual Novels for fans to enjoy on Steam, GoG, and other platforms that cater to younger audiences as well, our first release to console has been a long time coming. This is a great new step in the expansion of our company's business and our ability to deliver great Visual Novels to an even wider audience than before, and it's due in no small part thanks to the healthy growth of digital markets on console stores. We're very grateful to Nintendo for being so open and cooperative with developers looking to publish on their digital storefronts, and we couldn't be happier that one of our first console releases is a title developed by NOVECT, the amazing team responsible for the wonderful literary experience of The House in Fata Morgana."

When asked about MangaGamer's plans for future console releases, John had this to say:

"Currently our team is looking at several different titles in our catalog that would be appropriate for younger audiences and assessing how viable it will be to port them to the Nintendo Switch. We have several titles currently under consideration, both old and new, which we hope to see released on the Switch in the future."

Seventh Lair can now be found on Nintendo's JP eShop, EU eShop, and American eShop.

Seventh Lair
Dark†Knight, 27 years old, an indie game developer beginning to grow apprehensive about his lack of success. His life is on the bottom rung of society, and his career hangs on by a thread, but it's all about to take a positive turn when one of his very enthusiastic female fans reaches out.

The creative process was once driven by a vague desire to be recognized, but now he has real inspiration in his feelings for her, and in 2013 he knew he could make a hit unlike any other.

On his website, "Royaume Heaven", the regulars tended to go overboard with their critique on the forum page. After Dark†Knight's own involvement took a steep drop, one of the worst trolls, J.B kept pushing and pushing. "Come on, you hack creator! Hurry up and spit out a new game."

Then at last, Dark†Knight responded with a single comment.

"I'll have a new release on April Fool's"

On the day of April 1st. The newly uploaded game file was entitled "Seventh Lair". But the moment the download was performed, Dark†Knight and the others were sucked into an RPG-like realm...!

This Meta-Fantasy explores raw emotion and despair, in the context of our interactions on the web.

"A true masterpiece doesn't ask permission to move people."
